Antarctica Flag Competition
Back in November Waingels Geography Department launched the Antarctica Flag Competition as a Community event where students who entered had a chance to win points for their school community. This is a national event organised by UK Polar Network with the aim of 100s of schools across the county getting involved in designing and sending an Antarctica flag out in to the field with a fantastic team of polar researchers! The aim of this initiative is to inspire new generations about the Antarctic and Antarctica Day.
We are pleased to share that Waingels had a large number of entries across the school who took part and we chose 4 winning designs to send to UK Polar Network; Olivija G, Year 7 in Willow Community, Laila R, Year 7 in Oak Community, Fatima F, Year 9 in Hazel Community and Jeffery L, Year 7 in Willow Community. All 4 of these flag designs were taken to Antarctica by ERob Sutton, a deckhand on the RRS Sir David Attenborough! You can see from the photographs that these flags have ventured to King Edwards Point and Signy.
We are really proud of our student’s designs and to share how far these flags have travelled.
Well done to all who entered and particular congratulations to the four winners!
