Young Hero of the Year Award
Year 7 student, Dexter, was awarded the title of “Young Hero of the Year Award” at the Wokingham Community Awards back in November. This was presented to Dexter as he spent 100 days sleeping in a tent in his garden which raised £1155 for First Days Children’s Charity. He also ran one mile every day for over 365 days, raising £4000 for the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Dexter is passionate about helping people and enjoys playing sports, so these two challenges were perfect for him. Although he found it challenging to find the motivation to run every day, he managed to overcome this obstacle and achieved his goal. Dexter’s original target was to raise over £1000 for the Royal Berkshire Hospital and over £500 for the First Days Children’s Charity; which he massively exceeded. He was extremely proud of his achievements and intends to take on more challenges to raise money for charity.
One of his future goals is to cycle from London to Paris in 2024 to support Sport in Mind, a charity that promotes mental health and physical wellbeing through sport. Dexter also wants to raise money to help people who don’t have an oesophagus, inspired by his Tutor (Mrs Samsons' son). I hope he will continue to accomplish his goals and raise more money for charity in the future.
